First bar of Drowsy maggie can be tricky on an EC.The fingering I prefer is E ring finger,B middle,E ring D first, E ring.sometimes I play first E as E F#E Triplet.
what do others do?Dick Miles

Where's the tricky part? Is that the level of intricacy we were discussing in our raging topic about Irish music? biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Yes, First bar is tricky for me with your fingering. Much easier (for me) to use the middle finger on the E and bounce the first finger back and forth between the B and D. Lots of speed available that way.

I've always done it the way Sandy says. Works nicely indeed....

Great to see you post again by the way.

Thanks Mark, I've been extremely busy the past year or so. Not playing the box as much as I'd like, tho still doing 5-6 sessions a month (mostly banjo). It seems I missed a "raging topic" on Irish music. Oh well...perhaps that's just as well!!

I just started playing this tune, and that's the way I do it. It's fun!

well I suppose it depends on the size of ones fingers ,my fingers are fairly thin.and have found after practice that my system works well.
I prefer my fingering, and use it[the opening bars of Drowsy Maggie] as an exercise to strengthen all three fingers. I use the same fingering in the fermoy lasses.
I find that by strengthening all three fingers, that when I then come to play an e minor arpeggio, EGB in a song, I can then play all three notes of the arpeggio, using all three fingers, because all three fingers are strong and used to this pattern.
if I had to play EBD[Emodal7]as a chord I would use all three fingers, but then I use alot of chordal accompaniment in songs.,and do a lot of song accompaniment
thanks for your input and comments,I will mention Sandys fingering as an alternative at workshops etc, thanks again.Dick Miles
