I need some concertina-friendly tangos. I'm more or less clueless, except for Tango Caliente. Anybody have suggestions for tunes?
Alan Day
I can recommend a Tango either called "The Isle Of Capri" or mentions it at the end on the first A.
I have played this for ballroom dancing on the concertina and it is one of the easier ones.

Yikes, you're a better man than I, Gunga Din.

Nevertheless, I've also been toying with the idea of arranging for duet concertina a tanglo (this was a typo, but seems appropriate) tango called "Velada Criolla" from a Bill Mathiessen book. He's the Waltz Book I-III guy. You can click on the images of a few representative pieces here and see some of the sometimes daunting scores. At least the bass parts are usually punchy enough for Anglo.

There's some tango scores for Chemnitzer here, including Blue Tango and Isle of Capri. (The link takes you to the "i" section.)

The ideal person to ask would be Bertram Levy, who seems to reinvent himself every several years and is currently incarnated as a bandoneon tango player. He can presumaby be contacted through his tango group Tangoheart.

Good ideas, all. Shoulda though of Levy.

I've found a bunch, but difficult keys and steep learning curves; this is for a quickie gig, only need 3 tangos, but they have to be things we can pick up in a few days.

I'll check out all the suggestions; more welcome!

Jim,

The thread is getting old but just in case you are still interested, I posted a tango on the Tune-o-tron today - "Mi Refugio." It is Anglo friendly although the high B flat was a bit of a stranger to my fingers.

Tried to google for a tango. I like this one "tango Trentino".

It is downloadable on the following page (PDF with the dots, the song text, a midi and an MP3).

http://www.di-marino.it/TangoTrA.htm

Certain parts remind me of a Brazilian song called Lapinha by Elis Regina, has some jazzy key changes, maybe difficult on an anglo. but the MP3 is mainly in G, a counter melody to the song should be doable, especially if a guitar or something else is doing the chords.

Your fingers may feel tangled with this italian anglotanglo. Maybe to complicated to play on an anglo in one minute.
