I found this doubtlessly recent picture when searching for Dutch folk music (!?).
Given that one of these two is celebrating a birthday today, I thought I'd dig it out and post it. Wotcher, everyone!

edited comment: The c.net picture-squashing utility is apparently turned ON. Click to see in normal proportions. The picture-squashing utility would be just about right for me over a comparable spread of time and ....

...Couple of handsome concertina's , eh ?

She looks definitely like (a young) Anne Gregson, playing an English concertina. He could be Chris Timson (playing a concertina without thumbstraps).

BTW#1: Stephen: what do you expect to find in Durch folk music, or what are you looking for. I could (maybe) help you.

BTW#2: How is your map going?
Chris Timson
Urrr, this is a somewhat startling thing to come across unnanounced. Henk's ID is completely correct. Ah, those were the days...

It's a publicity photo we had taken probably about 10 years ago or so, back when we were actively seeking work in the folk clubs. The building in the background is the tithe barn in Bradford on Avon, about 10 minutes walk from our home. Wish I looked like that now.

Thanks for the birthday wishes.

Chris

PS the Dutch connection is easy. I am 1/8th Dutch, apparently.

Henk,

#2 first. I created the map largely for my own amusement and keep it constanty updated for the same reason. It takes only a moment as I spot new members who specify their locations and preferred instruments to add them to the map, rather than letting them accumulate out of hand. Luckily, editing a post does not bring it back to the head of the forum, where everyone would be thoroughly sick of seeing it by now. BTW, did you notice Lea Nicholson joined the other day?

#1. One of the things I like best in folk music is the different modal sounds of different cultures. I like to play Swedish pieces along with English and Irish tunes. I'm looking to add a French piece or two that suggest musette or other French country music. Since my mother's family was Dutch, and I knew nothing of Dutch music, I became curious and looked around. One site suggested there was little indigenous Dutch music. I think this must surely be a native son downplaying his own heritage, as Chris complains about with the English. If you have any tasty little pieces suitable for concertina, by all means let me know.

Nice photo Chris smile.gif Must have been a bit of a jolt, though.

Nice photo Chris.

Sorry, just saw this as I have been off the net since July 28th.

Don't we all wish we looked as we did ten years ago?

And perhaps a belated happy birthday is in order. If so, happy birthday to you. Lucky you, I'm not going to sing.

Hello Stephen,

Is the map "accessible" these days?

Be Well,

The map is still accessible at its original posting map posting. I update it regularly, so that it is rarely more than a week out-of-date, given that new members and posters give me information about their location and what type of concertina they play. I only rarely troll through the member listings to see if anyone has updated their information, so it's best to provide it upon registering.
