I just noticed a new member
"!GoToGo" and it seems to me that there is no relation between concertina-playing and the interests he (she??) shows in his (her??) profile.
This raises the question that I have put in this poll.

Forget the poll.
Forget the screening.
... Just report abuse like this to
Paul.
Paul owns and maintains Concertina.net. It is
his.
We have no
rights, but Paul
allows us a great deal of
freedom.
But if
he perceives something as abusive, he will act.
I believe this is such a case... this "member" will disappear.
But Paul is the only person with either the power or the right do that.
I am informing him.

Thanks Jim for bringing me back to reality!
It's a good sign (and a compliment to Paul) however that I more or less regard this forum as "our meeting place" and as a result came up with this poll.

Yep. If ever there was such a thing as a
benevolent dictator, Paul's the one.

I'm closing this topic to new posts until Paul deals with this. This happened in what is the middle of the night for those of us in North America...thank you for your patience.

Thanks for letting me know... I've deleted the user. The current registration system (with email validation) makes it tougher for scummy people like this to invade the site, but not impossible (if they're really determined). So just let me know when you spot people or posts which don't belong and Ken or I will zap them...
Thanks!
Paul

What happened? I wasn't paying attention. I hate it when I space out and miss all the action. :-)

I don't want to encourage attention seekers with long discussions of their activities, so I've replied to Sean in an email.

Please do not think that this posting is mischevous because it is not and I do not wish to know the details of the posting which prompted this decision to exclude the person in question. What I am interested to know that if somebody did not have a concertina but was visiting this site with a possible view of buying a concertina, their details would come up in the same way as this person with no reference to concertinas and could get banned.
If this person concerned was trying to promote a discusion on an unrelated matter I can see why this decision has been made.

I agree with Alan. I didn't have my first concertina yet when I first came here.
On the other hand, I wasn't posting anything...possibly nasty.

Just to put minds at rest on this issue, I saw the profile in question (there was no related posting), and the content was intentionally highly offensive.
There is no issue of excluding a would-be concertinist here.

Thank you Stephen. You describe it exactly.
May I ask that we consider this matter closed, and there be no more posts on this, please? I don't have time to individually write each new person who comes on and wants to know details. And we don't need (and I don't have time to manually moderate) public discussion of what amounts to spam -- something anyone with an email address already knows is not worth wasting your breath (or bits) on.
If you want to discuss something else (who helped you as a beginner, how to make a welcoming concertina community, etc), PLEASE go start a new topic. If you just want to be part of gossip without even knowing why, please go somewhere other than Concertina.net.
