Rhomylly
For all you morris musicians, May Revelers, Kentucky Derby Fans, Russian workers, and anyone else who finds the first day of May to be significant --

Happy May Day!

May the fermented beverage of your choice be smooth
May your fingers never fumble on the keys
May your bellows never leak
And may you have prosperity in the coming year.

Happy May Day!

Well, here in Denmark we don't have the maypoles and Morris, but May 1 is Labor Day, celebrated by unions and political parties. But the big celebration in Fælled Parken is as much carnival as political. The Communists, of course, still call it Rød 1 Maj, or Red 1 May, but I think that next year I should organize my own Reed 1 May party. smile.gif

I'll look forward to it. Squeezers of the world unite! You have nothing to lose except your dignity...

Hey Wendy,

I think I saw that little guy in a workshop. And he can play better than I can.

Hey Rhomylly......I guess I've blown my luck for this year!!!!!
In Toronto about five morris sides dance in High Park as the dawn comes up and then celebrate the coming of the new with Champagne and OJ and strawberries ( maybe not what your original plough-man may have had but a great way to get a start on the day)
Anyway,as I live outside Toronto I stayed over with a friend and a few of us went to a great pub on Front Street that sells Cask Conditioned beer the night before. The host says before we turn in...." I'LL set the alarm for 5.00 and we'll be there by 5.30 "..............to cut to the chase he put the alarm to 5.00 PM and we (me being the musician) arrived an hour and a half after dawn !! To much verbal abuse and an empty punch bowl.........now was that bad luck or what. !!!

No such luck for my side this year. Injuries prevented our usual May Day activities at Shepherdstown WVa. So I spent it in solitary squeezing and drinking.

wink.gif He was a birthday gift. He's assigned to the garden patch with the purple vinca. That stuff grows no matter what. When he gets reeeeeally good, maybe I'll move him over to....to, um, what?

A rosebush, maybe.

What's his repertoire?
.. My Wild Irish Rose?
.. Lily of Laguna?
.. Tripping Through the Tulips?
.. Poison Ivy?

I spent my May Day at the Jazz and Heritage Festival in New Orleans, La. What fun !! No concertina's, but plenty of Cajun free-reeds, free-reins on craziness, and free-MUD....it had rained a lot the days before. I lost myself and danced my blues away !!

One might hope that he can also do "Froggie Went A-Courtin' ". smile.gif

...You mean, because of doing a parody of Foggy Dew? blink.gif Hmm.. I think it's public domain....anyway, if my froggy had to go to court, that'd surely make him croak. biggrin.gif

Speaking of frogs...we usually have so many of them all over our road, at this time of year, hopping all over the place. It gets impossible to drive without squishing the...um, 'bubblepak,' as my brother calls it.

I try to avoid them and take the most frog-free roads, so I won't hit them.

They're so cute!

Less cute in the middle of the night. This group was serenading me last rainfall.

Hmm, where did that concertina come from? The lyrics I know from the Australian song Drover's Dream are:

Three frogs from out the swamp, where the atmosphere is damp
Came up and gingerly sat down on the stones.
They unrolled their little swags and took from their dilly bags
A violin, a banjo, and the bones.

Funny thing is that I play both concertina and bones. cool.gif

rolleyes.gif What adorable froggies!!!!

Hmm, makes me want to learn Kermit the frog's version of 'The Rainbow Connection' on the concertina!

Lots of good chords in that one...I did have it worked out on guitar, long ago.

Actually, we may have more toads than frogs, around here. Whatever!

I don't mind them anytime....they can sing all night, that's okay.
