Well as we are using the Roman gated walls strategy I can only counter with

Aldgate

Ach y fi! These Romans!
(What will Samantha think????)
No alternative then - BARBICAN

and now for a cunning move reminicent of Hannibal.....Elephant & Castle

These Romans got me thinking - oooerr, can only be one move - has to be BANK

FX: A loud BUZZ is heard....

ME: Errrm.... sorry but the previous move was to Felpersham High Street as a Nim escape strategy: There is no way that BANK can be considered a valid move and it risks depositing us back in Nim. Unless of course you are meaning the NatWest in Borchester.
NICHOLAS: And your challenge is...?
ME: Deviation
AUDIENCE (all at once): Booo! Hooray! Take the money! Oooh nooo!
NICHOLAS: Right, well, you get an extra point for a correct challenge and the turn remains with you...
AUDIENCE/FX: (general pandemonium)
ME: In that case, I'll have another try at Nim avoidance - this is for the common good, I'll have you know - and go for: Hollerton Junction

Sorry to interrupt the game but could someone explain me the rules ?
(if there is any chance that, being french, I can understand them...)

David

You don't just have to be French to not understand the rules

Samantha might know where they are

Samantha's gone down to the basement to check out the rulebook with one of the old members. She said its long and hard but she's working on it.

NICHOLAS: And your challenge is...?

No, I am sorry, imparsonation is not permitted under these rules (or indeed any ruleset after 1688). I would welcome advice from Mr Trimming on this but I believe you are in a state of complete Merton until you have personally bought all the current participants in the game a pint of bitter.

Why, thank you, I don't mind if I do. Doom Bar for preference, please.

Ah your back with us...
so how was your afternoon nap Humph....I mean Chris. ;)

I think there needs to be a confirmation of the last valid move on the Goodie principal.

Hi,

Just coming up for air!

I see that we have a little problem with Steve attempting an off-board (illegal) move.

I'd like to sit on the fence (luckily, no sharp points!) on this one. In his defence, I see that Steve lives at some great distance, at a location where reception might not be so good. I would suggest careful re-tuning to Radio 4, coupled with analysis of the Radio Times to ensure that the correct programme is selected.

I would have thought, under the circumstances, that Steve's last move, whilst illegal, should just be declared void, and that he should proceed without penalty. That's just my view, but bear in mind that I'm only an occasional player.

For a more informed opinion, I would suggest that we ask Samantha to comment, as she's never missed a game.

Regards,
Peter.

PS - back to work, now!

Samantha just emailed me to exactly that effect. She felt my response to Steve's move was slightly suspect anyway, but when I explained that it was a French/Breton colloquial exclamation I'd picked up while working in Western Brittany, she said she'd be happy to accept ejaculations in the Brest area.

OK. Pints of Shires in the Bull all round it is then.
So - for clarification (or should that be Clarrieluvification?), are we all out of Nim now?

Well - applying the seldom used Britannia Expostulation rule, my next move has to be the on the diagonal - Cannon Street

Hmm, sorry to join late. I'm afraid I can't work out quite where we are. I emailed Samantha who said she'd had a lot of people asking her for a hand, and she was flat out. She wasn't sure if she'd be able to fit me in and suggested I should sort myself out.

Can someone remind me if Tower Bridge is open or closed? I'm on a bicycle.

Closed to 2-wheeled traffic, I'm afraid.

Enough shilly-shallying around. I'm going north to Burnt Oak to see the old B&H factory location where Wheatstone's ended up.
