Thanks Pete.  I've a collection of most of these and some other things that have showed up on concertina net, but not all of these!

Hey Peter,  I hate to look a gift horse in the mouth buuutttttt:   I have this new Mac and I cannot seem to open this file of all the tunes.   I have been pretty careful to pick these up as they get posted thru the years, but it would be fun to have them all in one place.   Mind you it occurred to me about 2 years ago I could have a special folder in foreScore just for these tunes for the weekend---but I never did do that.  So anyone have a hint how to open this folder on a Mac?

Hi Shelly,

If you just want to get at the individual tunes just open the file with any text editor to copy and paste the tunes. If you want to open the whole file and audition the tunes etc download and install Easy ABC which is available for OSX. Install the free software, choose 'Open' from the 'File', browse your files and point to Something For The Weekend.abc. Once open you can scroll through the tunes in the list on the left to play, print, transpose to other keys etc. Neat little programme!

Well, I followed your very succinct directions and waded through all that technology--and bingo!   Thanks once again Peter.   Now I'll have "Something for the Weekend" in its own folder on my IPad.   I have to pat myself on the back.  I have kept up with these "Weekend" postings and a lot of these tunes are my favorites for nightly playing,  just to sooth myself!  Thanks for these specific instructions and the regular posting of Weekend tunes.

For the iPad I would recommend an app called Tunebook SD. You can load it up with abc files and carry your music with you everywhere!

Not a tune this time but a whole book full!  Some of the pieces are exercises for violin but even they will have interest for someone.

Here's a little ditty to get the fingers moving. Looks deceptively simple but I find it to be bit of a workout, especially if I take the tempo up to 1/4=110

Here's a fine rendition albeit slower than I would play it but pehaps it's bonnier at a slower pace.

I haven't posted for a while, here are a series of jigs called Rainbow Jigs, written by James Fitton who kindly gave me permission to share the abc, a PDF and an mp3 file of the whole thing.

Wow!  All 7 modes in one tune and all with chordal accompaniment.

I am going to have to study this carefully, and maybe separate out the parts as it is a little odd at the end (the Locrian?)

Pete:  Is this a coincidence or did you post this in response to recent discussions on modes and keys.  In either case, thanks for such a complete example.

Also, who is James Fitton? (wouldn't also be known as tallship by any chance?)

Don.

I haven't been keeping up with the forum of late Don so any content that aligns itself with recent discussions on here is entirely coincidental. James Fitton is an English dance band musician and composer, read this.

As for 'tallship' who he? Well to be honest it's me! That was my handle on this forum and many others for many years, for the last couple of years I've reverted to my own name. :D Am I now famous, or better still infamous? :o
