I've been quiet for a while as I haven't found any tunes worth sharing really but here's a nice little common time piece that you might play as a reel or a rant, a march or a schottishe but it doesn't seem right as a hornpipe. Yes it is Odiham Races not Oldham Races!

As usual there have been no new tunes worth posting for a while then two come along at once. Lovely straight slip jig this one, just let it roll right out and enjoy!

Here's my current self-improvement piece - yet another gorgeous schottische from French band La Chavannee, this one by Dominique Forges.

A real tongue-twister at first, but what a tune once you've got it ...

There's an error right at the end Steve, the repeat mark in the second time bar makes the midi crash! Good tune though, it goes on my to do list :)

This one's a little cracker that I've not heard before. 3/8=110 is perhaps a little fast for playing but sounds good on the midi player!

It feels quite good to be able to present an extraordinarily well written arrangement of a really good tune presented by one of the very talented players who grace this fine forum. You can work out the rest . . .

Some on-line converters might not render this correctly, if you have problems PM me.

Our own Tune-o-Tron seems to get the notes about right, but botch the MIDI.

In any case, there's always Danny Chapman's website, which indicates that it should sound about like this, and look about like so.

Yep that's right. I tried to turn Danny's hand written score into ABC/PDF perhaps I should have left it alone!

Our own Tune-o-Tron

With respect Paul acknowledged that this wasn't the best implementation of an abc converter when it was created and no, he couldn't make it better, which is fair enough. Your point is what exactly?

Thanks for that Pete; Danny's music handwriting is copeable but not pretty, so a tidied score seems a good thing and the moment you offer an arrangement rather than just a bare tune I'm interested.

I really like this, Mr Chapman at his best if you ask me. (it's just playing through for the 3rd time as I write.) The arrangement's so sparse, and yet the whole thing is completely formed and entirely satisfying. It's a clever trick. Thanks for reminding us of it.

Wonder if it'll fit on my 46 key duet?

Editted to add: perhaps I'll just listen to it once more...

Point? I don't remember trying to make any point... just bringing the rowlhouse links.
Certainly not complaining, if that's what came across-- I love the tune, the thread, the tune-o-tron.

I loaded the abc for Mr. Beveridge's Maggot into EasyABC and got a nice score and a passable MIDI rendition. Not as good as Danny Chapman's playing, but then that would be asking quite a lot.

Guilty as charged! Way too sensitive at times with regard to the use of abc I'm afraid and I do hope you'll forgive my bad temper. :o If you're getting into collecting tunes and tune collections written in abc I think you would be better off downloading one of the free pieces of software that allow you to do so much more than converting a single tune. I have two favourites but I'd be wary of naming them here. . .

As Dirge is in a JS Bach mood he'll no doubt enjoy this little ditty that I swiped from Danny's website. I added the V:2 statement to the header to prevent a single note being shown in the bass clef.
