Chris grew up in Yorkshire surrounded by folk music of all kinds & has a huge affinity with Irish music. He is one of the finest living players of Anglo concertina in the Irish style. He & Denny Bartley were founder members of the band Last Night's Fun; he's also appeared at the Proms with Bella Hardy. His playing is stirring, exhilarating & beautiful, with a wonderful way of combining dance tunes & songs to enhance both. He has tutored at Concertinas @ Witney & many folk festivals.
The workshop is primarily for CG Anglo concertina but other systems are welcome. It will cover popular Irish session scales, left-handed & County Clare style, ornamentation & timing. Music reading isn’t essential. For beginners upwards. Some music will be sent out in advance (dots & midis).

We still have some places for this workshop. I have made midis and pdfs of the two tunes Chris suggests, from O'Neill's Music of Ireland, if anyone would find those helpful.

We have five places left for this. We also have places for Denny Bartley's all-day guitar and song workshop on the same day, and tickets for Chris and Denny's performance at the Lewes Saturday Folk Club the same evening.

Hi Valmai, anything on on Friday evening and Sunday lunch in Lewes to make a weekend of it? We won't be able to come for the Folk Festival! Might get to Mandy Murray session in Brighton on Monday after the weekend if it's on.

Seaford Folk Club http://www.seafordfolkclub.com/ meets on Friday night; they have the brilliant American Anglo player Jody Kruskal on 19th. October, so that's worth attending. There's nothing regular happening that Sunday lunchtime in Lewes, but Horsham Folk Club http://www.horshamfolkclub.co.uk/ has the excellent Tom McConville on the Sunday evening. Definitely a good weekend's worth.

We have three places left for the workshop and plenty of evening tickets for Chris Sherburn & Denny Bartley's evening performance at Lewes Saturday Folk Club that evening. Denny leads an all-day guitar and song workshop during the day at the John Harvey Tavern in Lewes. Full details of Denny's workshop and a booking form are here: http://www.lewessatu.../WS165desc.html

An excellent workshop and concert with Chris and Denny. Thanks to the organizers, great as always in Lewes.all involved and we got to see and hear Jody Kruskal at Seaford on the Friday and caught an early bonfire too!. Well worth the long trek down to Sussex from South Yorkshire.
