Has anyone any suggestions for exercises on putting countermelody to tunes. I play C/G but I think the advice would cover other keys.

I am trying holding a note of partial chord on the RHS whilst putting in runs and octaves and chords or arpeggios. I must admit I find splitting my mind into tunes and counter melody tricky . I can do it if I am accompanying a tune by someone else or on record or when singing as at our South Yorkshire carols

I suppose to organists and piianists this comes more easily. Duet players may find it comes more readily but we have to wrestle with notes constrained by bellows directions .

Who would people recommend players or performances I listen to?
