richard
Hello folks I have communicated with Gearoid O'hallmhurain who MIGHT be in San Francisco sometime March 2005 and has suggested if 5-7 Anglo concertina players want to sign up for a 2 hour "CLARE CONCERTINA WORKSHOP", he and we MIGHT be able to make it happen. I repeat this is only a POSSIBILITY, 1. if we can find the players to commit and 2. Gearoid can make it to San Francisco. Would anyone be interested and ready to sign up and attend? That is the question. Please let me know. Thanks, Richard richardgldbrg@aol.com PS. Summer 2005 is also a potential possibility.
Frank Edgley
I would recommend attending a workshop by Gearoid. He is a wonderful player with a very interesting style. I attended a week's classes with him about 12 years ago, and they were very beneficial.
bill_mchale
I agree, I had the pleasure of meeting him and listening to him a couple of months ago when he dropped in to play a small set with the Baltimore Celi Band at the monthly Celi at J. Patrick's. Unfortunately Concertina Music is one of the few areas in Irish Music that Baltimore does not have a really strong player so it was a real treat. If I lived within 300 miles (as opposed to 2500) of SF I would definitely be in. -- Bill
Ken_Coles
BTW, if G.O. tells you of any other upcoming teaching he has scheduled, we'd love to post it in the 2005 classes page (due for revision soon). It's been a couple of years since I've seen him down for Augusta or East Durham or Swannanoa. I'd like to study with him also. Dave Weinstein
I will be in San Francisco in March for a conference (M-F), so if the workshop were on either side weekend, I might be able to make it. What is the proposed date? --Dave
richard
Hi folks Thanks for the response and interest so far. Once I have enough people interested I will let Gearoid know then it will be up to him to commit to a date. I personally am aiming for a Sunday afternoon, in March. We still need more people ready to commit to attending. I'll keep everyone posted. Richard
Chris Kollgaard
I would be very interested in attending. I live in Los Angeles so coming up on a Sunday would suit me well. I won't be able to come until after March 8. Chris Kollgaard (CKollgaard@aol.com)
richard
Hello Folks The Gearoid OHallmhurain Clare Concertina Workshop in San Francisco is on. At present the 7 spots are filled by people who have said they are interested. We are going on a first come, first serve basis. It is quiet likely some of the people who have expressed interest will not be able to actually register and attend. Anyone who might be intersted is encouraged to contact me and I will put them on a Wait List(in the order they contact me) and let them know if an opening for the workshop becomes available. Here are some of the basic details of the Workshop: WHAT: Clare Concertina Workshop given by Gearoid OHallmhurain WHEN: Sunday, February 27, 2005 at 1 PM. WHERE: San Francisco, CA The workshop will be two 90-minute sessions with a break in between.Light refreshments will be served. The workshop will cost $75.00 Gearoid Says: " Participants should be reminded to bring tape recorders as I prefer to use traditional oral methods; although, I can also work from transcriptions if necessary". Please contact me if you would like to be on the wait list or with any questions or comments.
