Iris is an inspired & sensitive accompanist, soloist & tutor on duet concertina & accordion. They have worked together for many years, specialising in British & Australian songs, settings of Henry Lawson poems, & also the songs of Graeme Miles. The workshop will help singers & players (any instrument) to perform a song in a personal way & to enhance it with accompaniment. Some songs will be sent out in advance but participants are encouraged to bring one of their own songs to work on as well. MARTYN & IRIS PERFORM AT THE ELEPHANT & CASTLE IN THE EVENING (£8; advance tickets available from the address at end of this post & from the club website) Provisional Timetable 10.45 Registration & coffee; please order lunch at the bar (refreshments not included) 11.00 Putting a song over: taking a song from its source to performance, showing how to use your own style to bring out & communicate its qualities. 12.30 - 13.30 Lunch 13.30-15.00 Developing a song: looking at the role accompaniment can play in supporting, enhancing & intensifying the performance of a song 15.00 Tea/coffee break 15.15 Putting it all together: adding the finishing touches, plus another opportunity for feed back & encouragement in developing your own performance 16.45 - Finish N.B.
