Mozzi
Hi, I bought this little beauty at a local auction today - I have looked it up and think it is a harmonium, is that right...?As you can see, the make is Geo.Jones - aka George Jones. The condition is not brilliant but I am sure what ever needs doing is quite achievable by someone who knows what they are doing. Can anyone give me an idea on what it might be worth please? SteveS
That's a nice looking folder. Technically speaking, when the bellows are pumped if it sucks in air through the reeds it's an American organ. If it blows air through the reeds it's a harmonium. An easy way to tell is if you look at underside of the exhausters, an American organ has valves on the outside. Looks like a fixer-upper - and hours of fun can be had from one of these organs. I have a couple myself. Good find!! Edited April 19, 2014 by SteveS
Stephen Chambers
Yes, it's a folding harmonium, an instrument that Jones made a speciality of; http://www.concertina.com/butler/butler-story-of-george-jones.pdf
Mozzi
Thank you for your feed back - I have now sold it to a musician friend who knows someone who should be able to sort it out.
