How To Publicise New Tunes?

Over the last few years I have written several tunes, some of which have received a favourable response from musicians I know. However, I tend to play solo most of the time.

It would be nice to feel that my tunes were available for others to play - the tunes would then of course stand or fall on their merits - but sitting in a folder on my laptop, being played in my kitchen, and occasionally wheeled out in the pub when I'm with the Morris seems to be a bit of a waste of the effort I've put into writing them.

I notice that "The Session" and other sites I've looked at discourage people from submitting their own tunes, and I full understand the reasons. However, is there any site which is there to give new tunes a chance to be "found"?

a good start would be to put them together into an abc file and/or a PDF and put them on your own website. People are always in search of intersting new tunes and they will find their way to your collection somehow or other.

Why not also put them up as an abc file or a link in the Music and Tunes section here?

A few of the brilliant musicians on this site have been successful at getting their work seen on Youtube. You might try that, and then set up a blog to support it with notation or sheet music, and maybe a little info about the tunes. If you let us know when it's done, you might get a couple folks to put videos up with links back to your site, maybe twice that from Melodeon.net. A couple folks are putting up a song every day, and it's getting tougher to find new material.

If you don't have a website it's very easy to link to a Dropbox account on a forum like this but I'm unsure what it is you want to achieve. Are your tunes freely shared or copyright? Either way do you need help creating abc or PDF files in order to share/sell your tunes?

I could of course post them in the Tunes/Songs forum, but I don't think that is really what the forum is for.

I don't see why not. Just don't start a fresh thread for every tune. Make your own "something-for-the-weekend"-like thread, featuring only tunes that you've composed yourself.

If anybody doesn't want to see your tunes, they'll know exactly which thread to ignore.
