these are both old and have a beautiful tone, one is a star and the other is a crown. I was wondering if anyone could tell me the value of these instruments. Thanks

Hi Kavy,

I don't have an answer for you, but I didn't want you to think that you're being ignored. These don't appear to be the "usual" sort of concertina that we're familiar with here.

From what I can see they look to be German style square 'tinas.

Valuing units from photos/descriptions isn't easy and people don't generally rush to do it. It would be interesting to see some photos of the ends, that would at least give a clearer idea of what type they are.

You're in the wrong place really; this is where the 'English style' concertina nutters hang out, and very few of us know much about your type of instruments. You need the Chemnitzer concertina people. Have another search; I think they're based arround Chicago particularly.

Hi Kavy

Theodore Kloba, a member here is a resident expert on chemnitzer concertinas, but he hasn't been around for a few months. Maybe you could entice him to look at it with a personal message, or email through the forum? Otherwise this site has some good information:

Thanks

Leo

  • 2 years later...

Scanning posts on the forums for mentions of my name or "chemnitzer"...

I do get these kinds of requests by email every so often and my usual answer is along the lines of:

"If I can't see, hold and play the instrument in person, I can only say the value is somewhere between $60 and $6,000."

I'm less polite when someone emails me unsolicited multi-megapixel photos.
