Wheatstoe Duet

Recommended Posts

This Ebay listing looks to be an oddball instrument. It does not appear to be a McCann, Crane, nor Jeffries style duet. The keyboard layout utilizes mirror-image-symettry, though the left hand and right hand are different. I did not explain that very well, oh well. The description says its anglo-german? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RARE-WHEATSTONE-DUET-AEOLA-72-Keys-AG-1926/173268894906?hash=item2857a184ba:g:qcMAAOSwDCxa0K-h

It's listed in the ledgers at http://www.horniman.info/DKNSARC/SD02/PAGES/D2P0620S.HTM as A.G. N.P. Octo 72 Keys 9 1/2. I believe that A.G. means Anglo German, N.P. means Nickel Plated, Octo is Octagonal and 9 1/2 is likely the width in inches. That may be why the seller says it's Anglo German. It's conceivable that it's a giant Anglo and not actually a duet at all.

On the other hand, it may be an "A,G. Duet" - see http://www.concertina.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=5855 . See especially the last three posts in that thread. The two instruments mentioned there are in the ledgers at http://www.horniman.info/DKNSARC/SD02/PAGES/D2P0500S.HTM . One is listed as an A.G. Duet, but the other is listed as A.G. Octo.

I suspect the only way to know would be to try it out or perhaps have the seller play it over the phone or in a recording. It's listed as being in Tamworth, Staffordshire. Does anyone live near there who might be able to check it out and report back, if the seller is willing?

Previously discussed here at http://www.concertina.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=19600 . Alex, thanks for catching that - I should have checked.

This one's been at David Robertson for restoration, then at auction and on ebay before within the last 12 months. Here's the keyboard layout

Thanks! Do you have by any chance a version with notes on staff or something like that?
