Vintage Lachenal 32b C/G Metal-Ended Anglo Concertina - Now Sold

This rather nice Anglo was refurbished and tuned in May 2016 by Andrew Norman and Co. of Shrewsbury, from whom it was purchased.

Additionally the 32 bone buttons (and Air Button) have since been felt bushed to provide smoother and quieter action, by messrs. David Robertson of Norwich.

There are no longer any of the original old maker labels still intact but the serial number stamped internally is 17618 which apparently places the original date of manufacture at about 1870. Weight is 1170g.

30 of the 32 buttons are laid out in standard 3-row Wheatstone type pattern. The additional button at C6 on the left is tuned push 4F and (very usefully) pull 5Csharp. On the right the extra button at C6 is tuned push 7C and pull 6D.

Tuning is to modern A440Hz and all the steel reeds give a bright, loud and pleasing tone with good response.

The plain black 6 fold bellows appear to be replacements from a much earlier time but are in quite good condition.

The sale includes the Hard Case shown in the photos.

There are many of these old Lachenals still enthusiastically being played and their popularity is well deserved. However I have spent too little time playing this one and I cannot afford indefinitely to keep it, hence the reason for sale.

An asking price of about £2000 plus delivery costs seems fair. Following cleared payment I would be happy to send it to most European destinations. Collection from my home near King’s Lynn, Norfolk UK is also a welcome alternative.

If sold I will make the usual contribution to this Forum. However if after a while it remains unsold I will then seek a sale on eBay.

Do please PM me if you are interested.
