Wheatstone Cases

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Does anyone have photos of the original key that came with a Wheatstone case? Mine is missing, along with the closing buckle, and I would like to make a replacement buckle and source a suitable key.

Many thanks,

Mike

Hi,

Here's a picture of a key I made for my Wheatstone box, but it's a wooden box, not a leather case with a buckle.

I disassembled the lock to find what shape the key needed to be and then modified a similar blank to fit.

Hope it might help.

Thanks Howard. On a cursory examination it would appear to be a similar style; hollow shaft, etc. I'll make a mock up out of brass tube before drilling out a final version from brass rod.

Cheers,

Mike

You will likely find a suitable key blank from horological suppliers (clock repair) Don't look at clock keys, which are used for winding, but rather look at the key blanks used for the cabinet hardware.

I found hollow shaft key blanks which were readily ground down to fit the simple locks on a two different Lachenal cases when I lived in Lancashire. The shop I used was in Bury, which isn't far away, but you can likely find a shop closer.
