Takayuki YAGI
Hi, I reckon this one currently on ebay looks similar to the one in this old article. In the first photo, I think I can see the round pad through the third slot just right of the Bastari logo. What do you think about this ? -- Taka
Stephen Chambers
I reckon this one currently on ebay looks similar to the one in this old article. Or this old thread. The bellows on these early ones have a much more "English" appearance too.
Ken_Coles
It does look a lot like mine. My impression is that the end frames are deeper when a 30-button Italian instrument has the upright reed blocks. Ken
nicx66
I noticed another with some handsome inlay work (maybe painted faux inlay?) along the same lines with the animal print bellows http://www.ebay.com/itm/201550051700?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
Stephen Chambers
And notice they're all in the USA, except the Wizard ones in South Africa. You wouldn't normally find these early ones in Britain.
Takayuki YAGI
Thank you all for your insights. I got one from ebay and that was exactly the same to Ken's Bastari. I replaced button sleeves with 3x6 silicone tube as Geo Salley suggested in his article. The result was not so bad but some buttons, especially which has longer lever, tend to stick in. Anyway I enjoyed repair job. If I could make the new set of buttons, the replacement would be the next step.
Ken_Coles
These models would be good candidates for the button system like that shown by Bob Tedrow some years ago. He mounted metal sleeves on the end and had delrin buttons in the sleeves, flared on the inner end to keep them in place, that pushed against the lever. He took down the photo essay some years ago but gave permission in an old thread for folks to use the method...sounds like one for the list to hunt through old web pages on one of the web archive sites. Ken_Coles
Very good! Note that using brass (I forgot that was his original method) can add appreciable weight (fine for some folks, others don't prefer it), so you can use delrin instead (comes in long rods you can cut, work, etc.).
