Sailors Hornpipe is a great tune. Anyone have the music to share for a anglo? Also Popeye's song is also a great tune. Any music for anglo would be great! Thanks Ron

Sailors Hornpipe is a great tune. Anyone have the music to share for a anglo?

It’s all over the web, both by that name and it’s correct name, College Hornpipe. Just search. Start here. In another thread, somebody told you about how abc will help you. This is a perfect example, and you don’t even need the software. The web page offers up notation and sound.

Also Popeye's song is also a great tune. Any music for anglo would be great!

Many people think of the above discussed tune as “Popeye’s.” Do you mean something different? Oh, maybe the “I’m Popeye the Sailor Man...” stuff. That may not be on the web. Here it is in abc. You should now have all the tools you need to figure out how to use it.

I thank you for the information you posted. I went to the page and I can see you can search for the song and play it. I don't know what that notation is you show. Popeye the sailor man- What is all that next to B? What is ABC in music never heard of it. Is this a new way to play music? Ron

Not a new way to play it, a new way to write it down. The B is the first note of the tune (“I’m”). It’s an upbeat, so a bar line | comes next. Then the 3 d’s are the next 3 notes (“Popeye the”). And so on. The neat thing about it is that not only can people read it, but software can read it and turn it into, for instance, a pdf of traditional music notation or sound output so you can here it. All the details are here.

Thanks for all your help I will get to learn this new method. I am use to reading music. Thanks Ron

Hello Ro n,

Don't think of it as a new method of reading, it is a method of digitally representing the music for efficient digital storage and file transfer. Any ABC file is easily converted to standard notation if you use one of the free ABC programs out there. Easy ABC works quite well, although each of us has our own pet programs. There used to be a wonderful converter here until it became a real problem with spammers and other hackers.
