Banish Misfortune On My Facebook Profile

Marcus

Recommended Posts

If you go to facebook.com and search for Marcus Kermode you should be able to see my videos. You may have to join up but it's a great way to meet up with people.

Doesn't one have to join Facebook to do this. I hope to go to my grave without ever having my profile on those particular social networks.

Hi Marcus,

I am a facebooker but can't see your videos. I'll keep trying.

As for people with prejudice against these things, that's your choice, steam ships and aeroplanes were scorned at first. :P

Seconded - and eloquently phrased if I might be so bold. I'll remain a Luddite too, it suits my nature.

Though this isn't a concertina post per se, I don't wish to use sites like Facebook and MySpace to check out concertina postings because of the real harm these sites sometimes do, particularly to our young. Yes, they do provide an interesting meeting place of ideas and profiles one cannot find anywhere else. But they also provide havens for pornographers and pedophiles. I don't wish to share my profile with theirs.

I do love seeing new concertina videos on YouTube as one doesn't have to "join up" to enjoy what is being presented.

I understand your sentiments, Cary.

I do have a MySpace page, and you would never believe (well, maybe you would) the number or porn sites that want to be my "friend"; the requests seem to arrive in clusters. Maybe it's something to do with my single status. I dread to think what other users might have to put up with.

So, I'd much rather see the links to videos here.

Regards,

Peter.

Cary,

As we are way off topic I just want to make it clear - I mainly use facebook to play scrabble with my *real* friends and family who don't live close by.

As I said your choice not to use such sites - but your inferences about people that use such sites are very worrying.

Anyway, back to concertinas - Mark, perhaps you could put the tunes on youtube :-)

Peter,

Sorry if my post implied a universal negative judgement of people who use Facebook and MySpace. Honestly, no such judgement was intended. I do know that people use these networks for legititmate reasons.

I also know that these networks allow users with illegitimate and illegal purposes to also thrive there and prey on others. I have a problem with those kind of users and with the creaters of Facebook and MySpace for not policing their networks better. As a father of three, this kind of stuff worries me immensely. Sorry again, if my original tone was offensive. Now, back to concertina matters . . . .
