edward
I have been learning to play the anglo concertina for some months now. And would like to try and meet up with other concertina players for a chat and to hopefully join a group of players if they will have me. I live in Exeter. S.Devon. Tom Hall
Edward -- You might also want to go to mudcat.org. It's a site for folkies, including many concertina players and also has many members in the UK. It's free to sign on and you can find out all manner of things happening in or near your part of the world. A lady named Gillian posted here a couple months back looking for a concertina. I sent her to the 'Cat and she had one in less than two weeks. Good luck - Tom (curmudgeon)
d.elliott
Edward, have a look at the ICA (International Concertina Association) Site: concertina.org They have a page dedicated to contacts for local groups. Being truly international they/ we (as I am a member too) even cover such diverse locations as Bristol, Tyneside, and Yorkshire, they may have something in your area. Bye the Bye, This is not an invitation to debate the true nature of the word *international* in the ICA context. Scotland, Wales, England and Yorkshire are all part of the United Kingdom, and as such are separate if they need to be united! Sorry Edward, this is an 'in joke' amongst those who sometimes follow this site and contend that the ICA is actually the UKCA Dave
Chris Timson
If you go to the ICA website you will find links to the Concertina FAQ. In both cases, look for the section "Clubs and Organisations" and look for the West Country Concertina Players, an active group who meet every 2 months near Taunton. The membership is predominantly English players, but there are a number of anglo players who go, and they are lucky enough to have Hilda Gibson, who was taught to play by Scan Tester and is a superb exponent of the Tester style, to lead them. I live in Bradford on Avon, near Bath. If ever you are up our way, give us a yell. Chris
Robin Harrison
Hi Edward...In addition to the West Country concertina assoc that meets around Somerset, theres a group of musicians who play fairly regularly around Taunton that have a couple of concertinas(one anglo) who would probably welcome another player. Is that too far for you? regards Robin Also if you're interested in Morris, check out Great Western,an Exeter side, they have a big band band(if you see what I mean)
