We've just learned that the pub company is selling The York for residential use. Another pub done gone!

No, don't say the York is going - far too much of my student grant and time was spent in there ... but the Red Deer also has a strong and fine music tradition (have they put a roof on the gents' loos yet?)

It's had a refurb and the loos don't flood! But it's still a nice litlle boozer going back to the 1830s

Sharon the new landlady is a great singer herself

real ales, food, free parking on Sundays

Even if it's only '4 in a bar' I'll be happy. No obligation to please the crowds or justify any payment as we play for nowt.

Ooh ... Is that the Sharon, Formerly of the Meadow Street and others, who regularly sings "Zombie" by the Cranberries? I was wondering where she'd got to...

Also, the York's Monday night anything goes session is probably moving to the Red House - Fortnightly.

That's full circle. John Keane and the lads used to play in the Red House when we kept it in the early 00s. Nice to see it's still a live music pub. There's been live music there since the 1830s when it was on the outskirts of town. Then it became the centre of Sheffield's Irish Community in 'The Crofts' until the 70s when demolition cleared the housing. It got tough in the economic decline in Sheffield 80s onwards but now it's been developed for flats and lofts. Hope it survives as a venue
