September the South Downs Society (registered charity number 230329) presents a fund-raising event: 'From the Fields to the Foundry' A Journey with Magic Lantern, Voices & Concertinas The Steyning Centre, Fletchers Croft, Steyning, West Sussex UK BN44 3XZ Doors open at 7.30 p.m. The show starts at 7.45 p.m. and finishes at 9.45 p.m. Images, traditional songs & readings about life on the land in Sussex at the time the Lewes Phoenix Foundry opened in 1832 & the changes it brought to working people's lives. Images from Allan & Rene Marriott's magic lantern, the Victorian ancestor of the slide projector. Music from the Spare Parts Concertina Band. Tickets are £10 including a welcome glass of wine and tea or coffee and biscuits during the interval.
