Jim Besser
I have now found this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZPIulK33GE being played on the instrument, on which it was composed? Thanks for that. The hurdy gurdy gives such a strong pulse.

Very impressive, although that drone really works just with the A-part as for me... I have the same issue with hurdy gurdy droning, but in the context of dance music, it offers a rhythmic pulse that's hard to top.
Sarah Swett
Here is my version. I worked on trying to play it slowly, simply and steadily and tried to give the piece some space and silence .Easier said than done. A little snippet of an old french Christmas carol popped in my head at the end of the piece. Nice, Daria. I love the idea of giving the tune some mellow musical parentheses
Sarah Swett
Wow-- Graham, your fabulous version and that hurdy hurdy show another whole side to this tune! So many possibilities. Thanks! I wonder why the quote thing didn't work on my last post....

Graham Collicutt
Second attempt, as a waltz: http://youtu.be/701Sp5ZfnzU It is not yet fixed in my head, how to play this, I am playing some phrases on the pull, then they change to the push. Pete Dunk
I'm not yet convinced by this tune but that went a long way towards making me like it Graham! Whatever it is you're doing (I don't play anglo) keep on doing it because I was almost mesmerised by the end of the video.
brandon
I want to reply individually to every contributor so far, as I have enjoyed all the versions for their individual qualities, but will refrain so as not to over-post. So far, I have a definite preference for the slower version of the tune. Geoff pointed out that the faster tempo somehow seems more natural on the hurdy gurdy than the concertina. I totally agree. There is something about the personality of the slower version that seems to merge more naturally with our instrument of choice.
David Barnert
And here's mine. This is a tune I've never played before today. https://soundcloud.com/dr-sleep-1/the-crested-hen Edited to add: So today I've posted my earliest tune and my most recent. Nice. Would you consider this version a mazurka or a waltz? Seems more waltzlike to me. I can't say I know enough about mazurkas to know how to play one. I've certainly never danced a mazurka. Waltzes on the other hand strap... I would think that unless I'm deliberately playing a hambo or a 3/2 Playford tune, pretty much anything I play in 3 is going to come out waltzable. Patrick Scannell
Thank you Geoff. Still plenty of beginner's warts in there, but if I hold off posting until I'm happy with it, I never get anything posted.

When I try it from your original post, it takes me to my own Soundcloud page. When I try from the reply immediately below, Soundcloud says it can't find the link. That link takes me to SoundCloud, but not to your recording. But I see that your post has been edited. Did the edit mess up the link? Edited to add: I see Tootler already noted the problem. And I also tried using the "original" link as quoted below your post, but I also got a not found message. Have you deleted your sound file, or maybe moved it?
