Rod
The design and construction of the metal ends bears some remarkable similarities to the metal ends of my Shire 36 button C/G Anglo, manufactured for me back in 1979 by John Timpany, but I am unaware that he was ever involved in English concertinas. Perhaps this was a prototype. The design of the metal ends was almost certainly created entirely by routing, as were mine. You can find some correspondence on this web-site commencing 22/12/2007 running through to about 15/2/2008 which tells much of the story of Shire Concertinas. It was a short-lived enterprise. A very sad story. Amidst the considerable correspondence I posted a few pictures of my splendid little Anglo and John supplied considerable detail concerning his construction methods etc. It is all still there on this website Stuart. If you are interested and have any difficulty in locating it let me know. In July 2011 a Shire Anglo, up for sale, appeared on this web-site. I sometimes wonder if my instrument is now a one-and-only surviving example.

Rod
I'm not sure that the full story is still there Alex but we seem to have established the source of the English instrument, which looks more than a bit worse for wear in the pictures. OLDNICKILBY
John Timpany wrote some really good articles in the E F D S S Magazine. He also wrote some cracking songs " Abby Boswell's Lurcher " and one that we sing "Whistling Jacket "
gcoover
Perhaps it is this very one, seen on the wall when I visited John Timpany's shop in June 1979? Gary
Rod
I guess you are correct Gary. And the Anglo could well be mine. I only had to wait just a few weeks to collect it around the summer of 1979.
