Bill Taffe
Hi, I'd like to learn to repair and restore concertinas. So I'm looking for a "fixer upper" to start learning on. I'd like a concertina with a reed pan (such as a Lachenal or a Bastari like the one described at http://www.concertina.net/kc_bastari.html - not one with an accordion type reed boxes with waxed in reeds. And, of course, I'm looking for an inexpensive instrument. I'm watching ebay (please don't "bid me up"! ) and will start checking yard sales, flea markets and the like. But if anyone has such an instrument they'd like to sell or knows of one I'd appreciate it if you'd let me know. Thanks. Bill Taffe
VernLindquist
Hey Bill. I may have one for you. What counts as inexpensive? Send me an email--
dbowers
Have you found anything yet? I have a 20-key Lachenal of 1890-1900 vintage that I bought as a fixer-upper, only to find I really didn't have the time to do more than a little clean-up. It actually turned out to be in fairly decent condition, once I cleaned the dust out. It needs a couple of pads and probably a valve or two. I've got a new set of straps and a set of thumbscrews from The Button Box that I haven't had time to install. It came with the original red leather baffles in place. I removed them, but kept the leather pieces. Any interest? I've got about $250 invested in the box. Make an offer.
AlexCJones
I just saw this one on ebay and remembered your post here: Item number: 2567958433 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...3&category=1289 - Alex
Radioboy
I think that the JDyer concertina has waxed accordion reeds. Still it is a great price for a 30 button Anglo with a wooden case. Howie
Paul Groff
Bill, I will be going back up to my shop in Cambridge next month. If you are still looking for a project, let me know your price range and what system (english, anglo, duet) you prefer and I will see what I have. I know there are some unrestored brass-reeded 20 key anglos and treble englishes on the back shelves, and if you have more to invest some steel-reeded ones as well. All English-made. Also let me know whether you would like to repair bellows, woodwork, actions, reedwork, or all of the above.
