Stomp Box

Recommended Posts

I don't intend this in a nasty way Ron, but my first thought was that if the band members don't, or can't listen to each other, then getting a stomp box is not going to make much difference. Perhaps they should all practise with a metronome - next to a recording device, it's your biggest friend!

Ron,

What instruments are there in your band? Couldn't one of them be used to lay down the rhythm?

In the very early days of my folk group, I use to "conduct" the band with my 5-string banjo. I used a very simple lick - just "thumb, fingers, thumb, fingers" for a 4/4 rhythm - and they could all hear that and act accordingly. After a couple of years of that, I was able to revert to more sophisticated picking patterns, because the guitarists had cottoned on to the idea, and our best guitarist had taken up the double bass, which is an ideal basis for keeping together.

Cheers,

John

As I see it a group who are unable to play strict tempo music in unison with one another do not deserve to be called ' a band ' !

Cruel Rod, Very Cruel.

they just need to learn to listen accross to each other, some people do this automatically, some struggle, but in time a group of 'solosits' can meld into just a group.

Thank you all for your comments clearly all have work to do,we loosely call it a band but in truth 12 of us get together one night a week to play a few tunes and have a bit of fun, there are two banjo players so I will try and get one to pick out the base.

Ron, be very careful with your choice! The typical banjo player tends to play too fast (just because he can, and because it makes the guitarists envious, prompting them to make all those deprecative banjoist jokes.) Be aware that the only way to make a banjoist play slowly is to put sheet music in front of him ... :P

Cheers,

John
