  1. BIDDING IS NOW OVER ============================ Reserve Price = $3,000 Previous Bid = $4000 (PR) Current highest offer = $5200 (TC) ============================ TC has now won the Concertina. I will be corresponding with them to verify the sale. If this does not work out, then I will offer the instrument to PR. If neither agree, then its back to ebay. Well that was fun! 2% of the final sale will be donated to this site. Best wishes to all who took part/viewed/gave advice. Regards Dave.

(This might be negotiable if someone suggest something just as safe) Closing date = Friday 25th July : 7pm Eastern Time (that translates to 12 midnight in England). 3. Im extending this to 7.30, cos I cant keep up with the emails at the moment.

  5. Last day folks, Ive also said that PayPal is acceptable - seeing as how I use it to pay for stuff as well. Regards
  6. Wed 23rd July UPDATE ============================ Reserve Price = $3,000 Previous Bid = $3,500 (SC) Current highest offer = $3,700 (PR) ============================ Bids in $100 increments please. Payment to be by Cashiers check/money order. (This might be negotiable if someone suggest something just as safe) Closing date = Friday 25th July : 7pm Eastern Time (that translates to 12 midnight in England). Shipping = USA (I'll do it, Fedex probably), England etc (buyer pays).
  7. OK, so Ive received a couple of offers so I'll go ahead with putting a few more details to try to make it easier. Its not a silent auction - whatever that is. Its just that Ive got my job to do and only get to see this message board now and then. The highest bid gets an ID they know who they are - I tell em. Also, the first person who bids a certain price is 'tagged', cos I had several people go for 3K. If the highest bidder doesnt go for it, then the second highest bidder will be contacted. If that fails its back to ebay. ============================ Reserve Price = $3,000 Previous Bid = $3,000 (BO) Current highest offer = $3,500 (SC) ============================ Bids in $100 increments please. 8. Im going with the ebay type approach. I was going to post the highest bidder's initials/ID during the 2 weeks, and then assuming I've got a reasonable offer at the end of the 2 weeks, sell it to them. If they decide they made a mistake offer it to the second bidder. I would make the assumption that no-one was going to rush in the last 5 minutes to up someones offer, as occurs with low value bids. I'll deal with that situation if it comes to it, so as to make it fair (or as fair as possible). Dave
  9. OK, so I sent it off to Bob Tedrow who took a look at it and gave this description; ***************************************************************************** Here is my evaluation and description of your concertina. This is a 50 button Jeffries Duet concertina repitched to a C/G Anglo. Original 6 fold bellows in good playing condition with playing wear evident on lower bellows folds. It has the original metal "drawer pull" handrests but the original straps have been replaced with a non adjustable piece of leather. The original brass hand strap screws are present. The raised metal ends have been carefully buffed in the recent past and are in good condition. The metal buttons are original and complete. The action is riveted and works quite well, no sticky buttons. The reeds are steel and while original have been carefully repitched to a c/g anglo format. There is a penciled note indicating that A. Norman, a highly competent concertina professional, has tuned the concertina in the past. All the valves (reed leathers) have been replaced although some are curled and should be replaced. Pads are mosly original with very few replacements. Although discolored with age, no evidence of insect damage or moisture damage. No accumulation of detritus. The reed pad has been shimmed to ensure a good airtight fit in the bellows frame. This a concertina is in good playing condition and has been serviced professionally in the past. It has been repitched from a Duet system to an Anglo system. The repitching has been carefully done and the concertina retains a consistent timbre across the scale. Bob Tedrow Homewood Music 205 879-4868 OK, ive posted all the pictures in topic "http://www.concertina.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=7161" Make me an offer, I reckon considering it cost 1100 quid 20 years ago, its worth at least $3000. I think I'll end the auction next Friday the 25th. If I dont get 3k +, I'll try ebay. Hopefully, this all sounds reasonable. Dave.
  10. oh man, I just typed in some big reply, then realize I wasnt logged in and lost the lot...... Well what I was going to say was this.... OK, I understand the whole scam thing, I once got 'almost' caught in a PayPal scam, they had the screens the lot, I only twigged when they asked for the account/password combo. Here's some more information about me; Yes I am Dave Stanford, I work at a company in Charlotte called CheckFree, my email is dstanford@checkfree.com I also have an emal dave_stanford@hotmail.com If you want to email me on any of those, thats fine. However, what I am trying to do is keep everything on the main page. Anything that appears to be pertinent to the instrument I will post. eg. a question was asked to the size of the instrument - and as you saw I posted that information. I am NOT accepting any offers behind the scenes. I do use eBay to buy stuff, my user name is "hiphophippo" and you will be able to see my dealings if you look at that account. I just buy stuff on eBay and have around 50 purchases. I dont sell anything - if I was devious I guess I'd have another account for that, but between a job, a family, 6 dogs, a cat... I have no time for anything else. If you can think of any other questions, just ask. If you want any other pictures, just ask. I may take a stab at recording all the notes in an mp3 file and then posting it. I guess the problem is getting a decent microphone to do the recording. Anyway Ive got a few days to think on that. Well the dogs are howling, Pogo needs to go walkies, so Im off now. Regards Dave.
  11. and to requote my first email I said "I havent played it for about 5 years, so its case is just gathering dust. ". Enuf justification... or send in the Spanish Inquisition....
  12. OK, I see why you quoted those 2 emails. Why did I say I had it for 5 years and then 16 years. You could have just asked the question. Let me put it another way. Ive owned it since 1992 when I bought it, so Ive owned it for 16 years. But I havent played it for about 5 years, its been sitting in its case. What I was saying was "I am not rushing into selling this in the next day or so, its been sitting in a case for 5 or so years, unplayed, I can wait a couple more weeks". I guess if you were really anxious you could contact Hobgoblin, I dont think I paid cash - they might have records of my payment in March 1992, it cost 1095 (and before you requote the 1100 quid, I was rounding up). Ive thought about selling it in the last few years. I read somewhere that if there's something you've been planning to do, and you dont get round to it for 3-6 months, then you're probably never going to get round to it" here's a picture of the first page of my Anglo concertina demystified, you'll see where I wrote when I bought it.
  13. Once again, thanks for the interest. I remember when I bought it, I liked it cos it was about the same size/weight as a standard anglo. What Im going to do is leave the information out here for a week/10 days and then (Feb 24th) decide what to do - and I will post what the plan is. Meantime, enjoy the pictures, ask questions, etc. Regards Dave.
  14. [attachmen t=3416:P2130071.JPG] A few pictures. pictures uploaded. 84/85 key nomenclature 67/70 ends 71 pulled out 76/91 reed beds 80/89 bellows 66 case and original straps 77 R Whitten and #R76 78 other side of end plate. The plate where it says Jeffries reads; JEFFRIES BROS MAKER 23 PRAEN (sort of faded) LONDON Obviously, I put on hard wearing leather straps, the original are in the case. I guess I could attach a video of me playing it, but I might get sued by the musicians union...or RSPCA !
