ldpaulson
Just a thought, but why not have an area on this site where concertina teachers can be listed? This would be a great resource. Another site I found when I was starting to play a different instrument offered this feature. I used it plus personal suggestions to find a teacher -- and a fantastic one at that! It was VERY valuable. I was suprised there isn't a similar feature here. The information could be simple: * Name; * City and State of primary studio; * Instruments taught (Anglo/English/piano accordion, et. al.); * Musical genres (Celtic, ECD, etc.); * Special experience or expertise -- years playing or teaching, relevant educational background, and any groups they might play/record with currently. * Teaching style -- whether they teach by ear or from paper; and * Additional comments -- this could include any other information they think would help a potential student make a decision regarding taking lessons such as a preference for intermediate students rather than rank beginners. This could be made into a simple form that each individual teacher could/should fill out and update periodically. Several people I know used that particular instrument forum's teacher listing to find qualified instructors when they were traveling on business. They knew they'd be in, say, New Jersey for a week and away from their regular teacher, so they'd look at the list to find someone to meet with during a lull in their schedule. They would contact the teacher prior to their trip and make arrangements for a lesson. I know I'm new and don't want to rock the boat, but I think this could be a fantastic resource for everyone who participates in the forum if it were centralized. ldpaulson Edited December 30, 2003 by ldpaulson
Daniel Bradbury
You know, I like this idea. One comment I would like to add is that teaching is an entirely different art from playing. Many people can play and perhaps teach some of the beginning scales. That in itself is really important when it come to this torturous instrument. But to have an organized aproach to sharing knowledge is a rare art indeed. One who offers himself/herself up as a teacher and expects renumeration for their talent at imparting real knowledge should have a real ability to do so. I WOULD ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO EDIT THEIR REGISTRATION PAGE TO INCLUDE A BASIC ADDRESS (CITY/STATE/PROVINCE/COUNTRY). tHAT WAY WE CAN CONTACT OTHER PLAYERS IN OUR AREAS!!!!! MOST OFTEN, EXPOSURE WILL EQUATE OR AT LEAST RELATE TO LEARNING. P.S. I can show anyone in the Tampa area how to play some of the scales, free of course! regards, Daniel Tampa, Florida Edited December 31, 2003 by Daniel Bradbury
