Posting Hyperlinks

Recommended Posts

Used to be that I could highlight some words in my post, click the little hyperlink icon at the top of the window (to the right of the happy face, maybe it's a couple of chain links?) and then after entering my link info in the pop-up box, when I closed it out the related URL information all inserted at the location I'd highlighted such that when posted the words still remained at the desired location and they were active hyperlinks to be clicked upon.

Now when I do that the URL information and a copy of the highlighted words always insert at the very start of the message and I have to move them down to where I want them to appear and then delete the redundant text that I'd originally highlighted.

Is it just me, or have others noticed this too? Maybe I'm doing something wrong? Or maybe it's the Windows 7 and IE 9 configuration I'm using?

I'm giving it a try right now, will link to concertina.net....

Okay, so far it looks right. It did not go to the beginning of the post. (Though, I know what you mean, that's happened to me before.)

I am using Google Chrome on a Mac Mini, but I doubt that has anything to do with it.

Thanks for the comparison Wendy.

Based on your comment I've tried making this post using Google Chrome and inserting a hyperlink works properly for me - inserting it in context and not at the very start of the post, so it appears the problem is related to Internet Explorer 9. Without your input I would not have guessed that the type of Internet browser would be the issue. I'll know to use Chrome in the future for making posts now. I wonder if this won't become an issue for others as the use of IE 9 becomes more common?

I've noticed for a time that my iSpell also has been working a little oddly, I'll save you the details but my guess is that it's likely related to the IE 9 usage as well.

Interesting. Here's what happened today when I tried to post in IE 9 here, with the word "here" just after "IE 9" being the targeted text. No change to the text in the designated spot, but the URL link and a copy of the targeted text went to the very start of the post. I started my text for this post a line down from the top of the box to permit clarity, so the blank line in between the link and the rest of the text was my doing, otherwise this would have started off with the link and the remainder of the post's text following it with no spacing between them. I don't know if there's another factor involved, but this hypertext linking feature worked fine when I tried it in Google Chrome after Wendy's post. For what it's worth, I tried adding an Emoticon at the end and it went where it was supposed to be.
