This sounds wonderful!!

I guess it's time to go public and announce that my daughter and I will be in the UK from approximately 24-July to early August. We had not yet determined our return date, but this could possibly give us a happy ending to our trip!

What Mark fails to mention is the location of Bradfield which is superbly set in the Pennines on the edge of the Peak District, only a few miles from Derwent Reservoir which was used as practice by the Dam Busters. Chatsworth House is also fairly near and lots of historic towns and places such as Buxton and Bakewell and things such as well-dressings, Blue John Fluorspar and Bakewell Pudding. So if you come for all of the above, you might as well come to the Festival as well.

You might want to look in on Sidmouth, then, first week in August. Lots of sessions, West Country Concertinas running their normal workshops. Not the normal Sidmouth folk week this year, but there still should be enough to keep the energetic concertina player thoroughly occupied. Bradfield is a week later, so the two can fit comfortably together.

Hi Mark,

Sorry that I was unclear. I thought someone, perhaps, Jim, had said that the video could not be played in the United States. Something about the format or technology. Perhaps I am thinking of something else. Anyway, I would like one if I would be able to play it.

I think Helen's question is as to whether the video is in PAL or NTSC format.

I don't know if the video is on VHS tape or DVD, but the typical VHS tape machines sold in the US won't play tapes made in PAL format. I believe it's the same way with DVD machines sold in the US.

It won't help in this matter, but I've found that the DVD players sold in Ireland (and perhaps England?) will usually play both formats, although PAL is the format commonly used in Ireland.

Sorry for the late response, Helen. Yes, you are right, and Bruce's explanation is correct. Most video players here in Denmark (and elsewhere in the EU?) are like those in Ireland. Though designed for PAL format, they can also play NTSC, doing the conversion in real time (i.e., while it's playing). I was aware that North American video players don't do the conversion the other way; I didn't know that American DVD players were similarly crippled.
